In Africa, emerging farmers mostly produce for own use (including cultural and household consumption). The development of value chains is seen as a key enabler of economic growth and reducing inequalities. Impact Advantage adds value by examining the cross-organisational environment in which value chain development takes place, by identifying overlapping and wasteful investments, and by eliciting opportunities for improvement of the enabling environment.
Logistics in Agriculture
- Described the current status of agro-logistics, and developed a baseline for strategy development for logistics in agriculture.
- Described the current status of logistics in agro-processing, and assisted EIDD of the DTI in defining their strategic role with respect to logistics support for the sector.
Supply chains in Agriculture
- Assessed agro-processing supply chains within SACU, to identify logistics and supply chain-related barriers to trade facilitation, and to develop policy recommendations to enable trade.
- Analysed international agricultural supply chains for provision of high-quality food products to a client in the Middle East.
- Developed requirements of logistic channel partners, analysed operational procedures, and developed recommendations to improve the interaction between partners.
